Sandra Ward

Ms. Ward

About Me: My name is Sandra Ward, and I have been teaching in Washington Unified School District for close to 20 years. The majority of my teaching career has been spent teaching Third Grade. This is my first year of teaching Second Grade, and I am loving it! My experience has prepared me to know what Second Graders need in order to be prepared for Third Grade.

I am a huge fan of the San Francisco Giants, and love to spend a sunny day at ATT&T Park!

I volunteer on the weekends at Tony LaRussa's Animal Rescue Foundation in Walnut Creek. I play with the kitties to socialize them so that they will be ready for adoption. We made a video! See if you can find Ms. Ward! Check it out here.

Behavior:  Students are expected to follow the Riverbank school rules, whether inside the classroom or out on the playground.  We discussed these rules in class this week, but please also make sure to review them at home with your child:

Be Respectful             Be Responsible                       Be Safe

To recognize positive behavior, Riverbank Staff will be using “Otter Props.” These tickets are given to students who show good citizenship. They may be saved for such things as a Homework Pass, lunch with me, or an entry to spin the “Big Wheel” for a prize.

Homework:  Second grade students are expected to complete about 20 minutes of homework each night.  I will be assigning homework every day beginning on Tuesday, September 8th.  Included in the homework will be reading.  Students are expected to read about 15 minutes a night.  All homework is due the next day. If a student does not turn in homework, he/she may miss recess to complete it. Please support your child by making sure they have a folder for their homework, and check to see if the homework is complete and correct.

Uniforms: Our school district has a uniform policy. It is navy blue or khaki bottoms, with blue or white polo shirts. Please make sure your child is in uniform daily. Any questions, concerns, or requests for uniforms can be made in the office.

P.E.:  California state standards say that students should be doing physical activity on a regular basis. Please make sure your child is wearing appropriate shoes for P.E. and recess play.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at school, 375-7700

I am also available by email at sward@wusd.k12.ca.us. I am really looking forward to the up-coming year
