My name is Thomas DiTusa, and I am happy to say that I will be your child's English teacher for the 2014-2015 school year. While I am originally from Long Island, New York, I have been living here in California since 1997, and I consider it my home. Before relocating to the west coast, I graduated from LIU, earning a B.A. in elementary education and an M.A. in English. Since then I have spent sixteen years in the classroom, instructing fourth-, fifth-, sixth-, and eighth-grade. I currently reside in West Sacramento with my wife of thirteen years and my two young daughters, Kayla and Makenzie, who both attend elementary school. In my spare time I enjoy, among other things, reading and writing, martial arts, weight training, playing guitar, hiking, and mountain biking.
As an educator and parent myself, I want to partner with you to ensure that your child reaches his or her highest potential. I believe that to be truly successful as a student, your child will have to put forth his or her best effort. I furthermore believe that organization and engagement are critical. To ensure that your child is always improving as a reader, I ask that he or she spend at least thirty minutes reading a day. Students may check out books from the school library or from the public library, the latter of which is conveniently located less than ten minutes from our campus.
I am happy to talk to parents about their concerns or to answer any questions they might have regarding me, the progress of their child, or English 8 in general. Please feel free to call me here at school or email me at email@example.com. That being said, let's have a great school year!
