Welcome to the 2016-17 school year! I hope you’ve had a relaxing and restful summer! I am looking forward to an exciting year working alongside of each and every one of you, as Principal of Riverbank Elementary School. Many of you have stopped by and shared in conversation about the goals for the upcoming year. I am honored to join the Riverbank Family and bring with me over twenty-one years of experience in education.
My teaching career began shortly after graduating from UCLA. My first teaching position was in South Los Angeles, where I taught second and third grades before becoming a literacy coach and teacher leader for almost ten years. Upon starting my own family, I decided to move back to Northern California, to be closer to my family. I was born and raised in Yolo County and I am a native of Winters. I am a proud product of migrant education, born to migrant farm working parents. I, along with my eleven siblings were taught at an early age that education was the key to opening up opportunities to a better future. I learned to work hard for what I wanted, and not to limit my dreams because anything is possible.
Upon moving back to Northern California, I was hired to teach in Esparto Unified, where I taught 6th grade English. I eventually went on to become involved in the teachers association and served as President of our Teacher’s Association for three years. I eventually became the ELD Coach, which took me out of the classroom based on the huge need for teacher and student support. I then decided to pursue my administrative credential and became Director of English Language Development K-12 and Vice Principal of our K-8 School. Two years ago, our K-8 became an elementary and middle school, and I was hired as the Principal of our Middle School while remaining Director of English Language Development K-12.
I have worked in many facets of education, and I am honored to be joining an amazing team here at Riverbank Elementary. I am looking forward to bringing my passion for Education, love of learning and relationship building to Riverbank Elementary and our community. I have met some parents and staff and feel very welcome! This year will bring new opportunities for new challenges, reflection and growth! I look forward to an excellent year!
