Positive Behavior Intervention Support

OTTER PRIDE

Mission:  To teach all students and staff how to make good choices for positive behavior in the school setting. Our aim is to use data to identify positive and negative behaviors to support systemic change and reduce the loss of instruction.

Goals:  To teach all students and staff how to make good choices by having a positive attitude, acting responsibly and respectfully and using integrity, determination and empathy when dealing with people and situations in the school setting.

Classrooms: To encourage whole-class good behavior, the students will discuss what good behavior looks like in the classroom. The teacher will go over how to have a positive attitude, act responsibly & respectfully, use integrity, determination and empathy in class. The class then sets a reward with their teacher that they will work towards reaching by showing a positive attitude, act responsibly & respectfully, use integrity, determination and empathy in class. Riverbank classrooms have whole class incentives that vary by teacher and by grade level.  Individual student behavior contributes to whole class incentives and we encourage all students to participate and be a part of their classroom team.

Individuals: To encourage each student’s individual good behavior, students will discuss what good behavior looks like (including having a positive attitude, acting responsibly & respectfully and using integrity, determination and empathy) in all settings on campus with their teacher and other staff members.  Students can earn Otter Bucks for showing positive behaviors, exhibiting Otter PRIDE and following school-wide expectations.  Teachers, school staff and administrators will be awarding students Otter Bucks when students demonstrate positive behavior. The Student Store will open on Thursdays during early recess or lunch for 6-8 grades.  Student Store menus will be posted in each classroom so students can know what they can purchase with their Otter Bucks and not take a lot of their recess time to receive their rewards. Students may choose to spend or save their Otter Bucks for larger prizes.

School-wide:  Students will be recognized for positive behaviors like good attendance, being on time to classes, academic improvement, consistently doing their best in class, helping others, etc. on a regular basis through assemblies and other school-wide activities.
