Rebuilding Riverbank Playground

IMAG0110.JPGOn Thursday evening, April 2nd, someone started a fire on the elementary playground at Riverbank Elementary School.  The West Sacramento Fire Department responded and was able to save about fifty percent of the climbing structure.  The slide and climbing wall were destroyed.  The Washington Unified School District maintenance department responded early Friday morning and had the area cleaned up and ready for students to return.

Although not a total loss, the damage to the playground is estimated to be approximately $50,000.  Washington Unified School District has insurance that will cover all but the $25,000 deductible.  We have had an outpouring of support from parents and community members, local businesses, like the Broderick Roadhouse Restaurant, and national businesses like Gametime Playground Equipment.

The process of rebuilding the playground will take some time.  Public schools have regulations and guidelines for construction that will need to be followed.  Our district office is exploring options for getting the structure rebuilt as quickly as possible so that our students can be back on the playground, climbing, sliding and playing during their recesses.

If you would like to donate to help us rebuild the playground or if you would like to donate to help us purchase additional playground equipment to be used while we wait for the structure to be rebuilt, you can visit the district office business department at 930 Westacre road in West Sacramento.  A specific fund has been opened for your donations.

For more information call the school office at 916-375-7700 or the district office business department at 916-375-7600.

Together we will rebuild and recreate a play structure that will provide students with a fun, safe, and healthy place to play.
