History of Riverbank

History of Riverbank

Riverbank Elementary School, situated at the edge of the Sacramento River, the northernmost school in our district, started out as Washington High School in 1955. After River City High School opened, Golden State Middle School started here and remained a middle school until our district decided to go with a K-8 model instead of a single middle school. Our site could not initially hold the close to one thousand kinder through eighth grade students, so we opened the doors of Riverbank as a third through eighth grade school in 2008. In August 2012, after extensive remodeling, we welcomed our kinder through second grade students, and currently have approximately 790 students enrolled in kindergarten through eighth grade.
